It is prime cherry blossom (sakura) viewing season here in Tokyo! If you go to any park, you'll see lots of blue plastic sheets laid out on the ground underneath the pink and white flower laden branches. These sheets may be guarded by a lone junior employee, soon to be joined by her gang of coworkers to engage in alcohol-and-petal fueled revelry.
Of course families and students get in the act too, it's an all-ages affair and a great excuse (as if you needed one) to enjoy the wonderful weather.
Although these cherry blossoms do not really have much of a smell, that doesn't stop companies from producing special edition goodies with Sakura branding or supposed flavoring. For example, Pepsi has come out with Sakura Pepsi. It's a light pink soda/pop that tastes like a mix between cream soda and cherry.
